Dealing With It

Kia Ora everyone, I hope all is well and training is coming along.

Man... Where has time gone? We are now in the middle of August leaving us with 4.5 months left in the year.

About a month ago I went through a few ups and downs which put me through my paces which like anything gives you the opportunity to either reflect to learn or ignore it.

I am someone who is all about personal development no matter what it is in personal, work or training life so I always choose to head down the path of understanding but what this tends to do is take its toll on me. One way that I deal with things and process is my hitting the gym so, around my triathlon sessions I had been pushing too heavy weights, what this directly affected was my swimming.

For about three weeks my resting heart rate was 5-7 beats higher than normal, my sleep pattern was unsettled and before I knew it I was struggling to swim and hit the times that were set for me due to my arms tiring out.

So, I stepped back and looked for something different, three weeks ago I started going to yoga which is pretty awesome feeling, not only are your improving your strength, core and flexibility but also something as simple as breathing can help you ease your mind.

Before I knew it everything has started to fall in place again and back into routine as well as my swimming form and just in time may I add, with my first half marathon hit out in the weekend at round two of the trail trilogy from Waihi to Paeroa, I came in 3rd in 1.27.50 with an average heart rate of 177 finishing the last 2km at 185 average with the goal to build into it the race, I got carried away about half way through which took its toll in the last 2km.

Next up is the Mount Manganui half marathon on the 27th August 2016 where the game plan is to be sitting on the limiter, goal time 1.25hr

until next time :)
