Kia ora guys,

Firstly, I hope everyone is well and had an amazing Christmas and New Year mine has been amazing and right now I'm writing this on Mount Manganui beach in the sun 😉

It's that time again for Tauranga Half Ironman, one of the best races in New Zealand purely because of the beautiful beaches and summer holiday vibes.

I have been fortunate enough this year to take a few days off work and be staying at my girlfriends families house which has been amazing to spend time with them and give me the chance to get out on the course and take a mental break from work so for that I am very thankful!

I'm going into this race with a fair bit of confidence and the right mindset. After two solid half ironman's in the last 6 weeks and last weeks sprint triathlon which together with a few short sharp sessions in the pool, on the bike and running has my expectations set high to perform as well as my Sydney 70.3 result with a stronger run.

I know however, that this distance deserves the respect and you cannot go in being over confident because when you feel you are on the top of your game you can either perform beyond your expectations or hit rock bottom.

My plan is to swim strong to gain a comfortable position on the bike and work together with those around me to "pull" me along mentally, I'll need to be mindful of my threshold and know when I need to pull off or push through so I don't blow with the expectation to build on the back end of the bike and do what I have not had to do is put myself in the hurt locker and embrace the suck as they say too perform well on the run despite my position off the bike.

All I can say is I'll race as hard as I can on the day and what will be will be, I'm excited to have my parents coming to support me, Penny' family and a group of triathlete friends who will be pushing me along and I can't forget one of my bet mates Tim Ford who has come over with his father and brother for a holiday and race at one of our local events.

With that said I'll sign off until next week, wish me luck, cheer me along if you are out there! I'm expecting hi5's 😊
